First-Gen at Brown
What is First-Gen?
First-Gen is defined at Brown as "a student whose parents or guardians did not complete a four-year college education or any student who self-identifies as having minimal prior exposure to, or knowledge of, navigating higher education”.
First-Generation College Celebration (FGCC) is an annual opportunity to raise awareness of the first-generation college student identity by advancing an asset-based, national narrative of these students’ experiences and outcomes.
First-Gen is defined at Brown as "a student whose parents or guardians did not complete a four-year college education or any student who self-identifies as having minimal prior exposure to, or knowledge of, navigating higher education”. This could include graduate students who are the first to attend graduate school, the first to attend in many generations, or the first to attend undergraduate or graduate school in the United States.
The U-FLi Center seeks to create alternative pathways for holistic student success that are rooted in intentional relationship building, shared learning, and collective action towards economic and immigrant justice.
