Dev Bhatia '25 Sc.M.

Enrollment Graduate Assistant

He chose Brown University for its focus on interdisciplinary collaboration and real-world problem-solving, providing an ideal environment to refine his skills.

After graduating, Bhatia plans to continue working in technology, leading teams and contributing to impactful projects. He is passionate about mentorship and education, aspiring to motivate the next generation of tech professionals, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds.

“The student life is vibrant and welcoming, and I’ve appreciated the opportunities to engage with students from a strong variety of backgrounds,” Bhatia says. “The sense of community here has made my experience even more fulfilling, and I’ve enjoyed giving back through leadership and mentorship opportunities.”

Sharanya Renjit

Graduate Assistant for Master’s Student Engagement

One of her favorite experiences at Brown has been growing crystals as part of her research. “I love the process — doing the calculations, setting everything up and then, after a few days, seeing the crystals I grew under the microscope. It’s an incredible feeling to watch something I’ve only studied in books come to life!” she shares.

At Brown, Renjit is not only diving deep into her studies but also enriching the community as the Graduate Assistant for Master's Student Engagement. Her role involves working closely with students to support their engagement and participation in various events. Renjit’s commitment to fostering a sense of belonging among students is evident in her enthusiasm for these initiatives. In addition to working closely with master’s students, she also serves as the Chair of International Advocacy for the Graduate Student Council.

“The role of chair of international advocacy has been incredibly rewarding,” Renjit notes. “I love working with people and offering as much help as I can. I encourage students to attend Graduate Student Council and master’s program events, as these opportunities help foster a sense of belonging.”

Looking ahead, Renjit plans to pursue a Ph.D. in physics, aiming to dedicate more time to research. Her dedication to both her academic pursuits and her role as an advocate highlights her commitment to both personal growth and community support.

David Shafiei '25 Sc.M.

Graduate Assistant for Master's Career Services

Headshot of David ShafieiNew Jersey native David Shafiei is a Master of Science in Biotechnology student with a long-term goal of working in the biotech industry as an attorney. Before making his way to Brown, Shafiei studied cell biology and neuroscience as an undergraduate student at Rutgers University and went on to attend Rutgers Law School shortly after. “I wanted to refine my people and explanatory skills. My time at Brown will give me the necessary tools and experiences required for success in this field.”

In year two of his graduate assistant role with Career Services, Shafiei continues to meet with fellow students to provide support with resume and cover letter writing. If there’s one piece of advice he would offer to prospective students, it’s to take a leap in the face of fear. “When faced with a crossroads, always choose the path that scares you the most. The only way we can grow socially and intellectually is if we leave our safe bubble and try new things. If that means taking a TA job, signing up for that pitch contest, or maybe even taking that class that seems out of your depth, then do it,” he says.
