Dear Brown University Master’s Students,
Welcome to Brown! As the Dean of Master's and Professional Programs, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the new academic year. Whether you are here on campus in Providence, Rhode Island, or joining us online from across the country or even around the globe, I am looking forward to getting to know each of you and learning how I can help make the most of your Brown experience.
Brown’s largest master’s class in history
This year marks a significant milestone for Brown University as we welcome the largest master's class in our 260-year history. Each of you brings a unique set of experiences, perspectives and talents, making our academic community richer and more dynamic. Your presence here is a testament to your hard work and dedication, and we are thrilled to have you join us.
To our new students: you are joining a community of scholars who are at the forefront of their fields and dedicated to excellence and impact, whether through teaching in the classrooms or in the laboratory as part of their research. You’ll also be joining a community of peers who are committed to collaboration and to open dialogue across diverse perspectives. We are excited to see the contributions you will make to this vibrant academic environment.
Resources to support your success
At Brown, your success is our success. We have an array of resources designed to support you throughout your academic journey. The Center for Master's Student Excellence is your central hub for all the services you may need — whether it's academic support, health and wellness services, financial guidance or simply a place to find answers to your questions. Our dedicated staff are here to assist you every step of the way, so don’t hesitate to reach out.
Our esteemed faculty members are more than just educators — they are mentors and industry leaders who are eager to share their knowledge and guide you through your studies. I encourage you to engage with them, seek their advice and take full advantage of the opportunities to learn from their expertise. Building these relationships will be invaluable as you progress through your program.
Building community and belonging
I understand that finding your place in a large institution can be a daunting task. As a former Brown student myself, I know how important it is to feel connected and supported. That's why the Center for Master’s Student Excellence organizes a variety of events — social, educational and career-related — both in-person and online.
These events are excellent opportunities to forge friendships, network and create a sense of belonging within our community. Remember, your experience at Brown extends far beyond the classroom, and these connections will enrich your time here.
Stay informed and engaged
To stay informed about all the resources and opportunities available to you, I encourage you to regularly visit our website at masters.brown.edu, keep an eye on the monthly newsletters and follow our social media channels. These resources will provide you with essential information about events, career services and where to go for academic and personal support.
In closing, I want to reiterate how excited I am to have you here at Brown. This year holds endless possibilities for learning, growth and discovery, and I am confident that each of you will contribute to and benefit from the vibrant community that makes Brown so special.
Welcome back and best wishes for a successful and fulfilling year ahead!
Warm regards,
