All incoming graduate students are required to take an online course on the rules of conduct defined in the Academic Code, Graduate Student edition and the Student Conduct Code, which pertains to all students.
Academic code
Master's students are expected to be aware of, and to comply with, the Academic Code.
Leaves of Absence
The Center for Master's Student Excellence recognizes that during the course of their graduate study a student may need to request a leave of absence.
Requesting re-admission
- For non-medical Leaves of Absence (LOAs), students should contact their department, who will then submit the re-admissions request on their behalf.
- For medical leaves of absence (MLOAs) clearance guidelines are detailed on the Graduate School website.
Student Conduct
Brown's student code of conduct is a set of standards of student behavior and conduct that help maintain a campus environment where ideas are freely exchanged, University property and processes are respected, and conflicts are peacefully resolved. All students are expected to abide by the code during their time at Brown.
Questions
- If students have any questions regarding academic regulations, they should contact the Dean of the Graduate School immediately.
- For questions regarding student conduct, contact the Associate Dean and Director of Student Support Services.
- For questions regarding research policies and regulations, contact the Vice President for Research.
Conflict Resolution
In the event of a conflict between the policies, procedures, and rules of an individual master's program and the handbook, the handbook will take precedence. The handbook supersedes any conflicting information that may appear elsewhere on the Master's website.
In the event of a conflict with a faculty member, advisor, program director or dean, or in the event of a grade dispute, the Graduate Student Grievance procedures should be referenced.
Crisis Support
Resources
While no one anticipates going through a crisis, life happens. Fortunately, there are many resources available to you and all students in the Brown community.
